How is water calculated?
As the share of function words — prepositions, conjunctions, particles, pronouns and linking verbs — in the total word count. The list is built into the tool, so results are reproducible: the same text always yields the same number.
How is classic nausea calculated?
As the square root of the most frequent meaningful word's count. If a word appears twenty-five times, nausea is five. It is the most common definition and easy to verify by hand.
Why is there no “academic nausea”?
Because there is no agreed definition: services compute it differently and return different numbers for the same text. Instead we show the share of the ten most frequent words, a value visible in the table below and recomputable by hand.
Are word forms taken into account for keywords?
Yes. Every phrase is searched twice: as an exact match and by word stems, so “sitemap files” is found in “sitemap file” too. Both numbers are shown separately because different tasks need different ones.
Is the text sent anywhere?
No. The whole analysis runs in your browser, which matters for an unpublished draft: it never reaches our server or anywhere else. The page works with the network switched off.
Which numbers should I aim for?
There are no universal norms, and any service quoting an exact threshold is presenting its own convention as a rule. It is more useful to look at skews: one word taking over four per cent of the text, sentences averaging more than twenty-five words, a keyword repeating more often than reads naturally.
