Topic research: how the service decides what to write about
Table of Contents
What it is
The Suggest topics button on the Topic ideas tab removes the hardest step: deciding what to write about. The service looks at what your site already publishes, asks Yandex Wordstat what people actually search for, and returns topics you have not covered yet.
The key difference from simply asking a neural network: the volume next to each topic is real. It comes from Wordstat and is stored with the region and the measurement date. The language model never sees volumes and cannot invent them.
How to run it
- Open the site and go to the Topic ideas tab.
- Press Suggest topics. The run happens in the background, usually two to four minutes — you can close the page, the result is saved.
- Tick the topics you want and press Take into work.
An accepted topic becomes a regular keyword cluster: main query, related phrases, intent, page type. From there it generates like any other keyword.
What happens inside
- We look at the site. For WordPress we read the post list via the built-in API; for others we take URLs from the sitemap and fetch page titles.
- We identify the niche. A topic core is built from your headlines. This guards against homonymy: the same word can belong to entirely different niches.
- We ask Wordstat. Each seed returns hundreds of real queries with their volume.
- We clean up. Foreign niches, junk and your stop topics are removed.
- We drop what exists. Topics are compared against your pages and your keywords.
- We build topics. Close queries are grouped into one article; the group volume is calculated by the system.
Settings that affect the result
Two fields in Site settings noticeably improve the outcome:
- Region for search volume — where Wordstat measures demand. Russia by default.
- What not to write about — stop topics: services you do not offer or directions you do not need.
A filled-in target audience and brand voice also help: the service understands the site better.
How many runs are available
- Free — one run per month with a shortened output.
- Starter — four runs per month.
- Pro — ten.
- Agency — thirty.
The counter resets on the first day of each month.
If no topics were found
This happens on sites that already cover almost everything in their niche. What helps:
- Check the region: a narrow region has less demand than the whole country.
- Remove extra words from the stop-topics field.
- Dismissed topics are never suggested again — dismissing too many narrows the output.
Try it without signing in
There is an open, lighter version — topic ideas by domain. It reads fewer pages and ignores your region and excluded topics, but shows the same principle: Wordstat demand minus what you have already written.
